Gigabyte & SystemShock National Overclocking Competition Recap Last month we held an overclocking competition in Johannesburg for Gigabyte. Based on feedback from the people who were there, it was nothing short of a success. The Gigabyte & SystemShock National Overclocking Competition was the first of its kind in the country and won't be the last. Five competitors competed on identical hardware in a series of timed benchmarks. All hardware for the event was sponsored by Gigabyte, Intel & Transcend. Seth Anderson ran away with the event scoring double second places points. Seth will be accompanied by Marc Unser (Trax) as they head to Taipei in September to compete in the Gigabyte world wide event. Yours truly (aCe) as well as Neo will also be headed to Taipei to report on the event. We'll update the forums with more information about the event as soon as it's available. We'll also try and bring you a blow by blow account of things as they happen from Taiwan. For a full recap and some photo's from the Johannesburg event check out the forums. Congratulations and thank you to all the members who have contributed to the site over the years. Forum Features We recently upgraded the board software and with it purchased the blog addon. All members can create their very own free blog. To set up your blog head to your control panels or click the Blog link at the top of every page. Members can also create their own Free Image Gallery. The process is exactly the same as with the blogs. You can manage your gallery via your control panel or click on the Gallery link at the top of every page. In Closing That's it for this edition. Gigabyte & SystemShock National Overclocking Competition This weekend we are hosting the finals of the Gigabyte & SystemShock National Overclocking Competition. Five finalists have been chosen to take part in the main event in Boksburg this Saturday, 21 June 2008. We will be holding the event at the Mayhem open lan. Entrance is free as long as you don't bring your computer with you. You also have the option to pay a very nominal fee of R50 which will allow you to bring your computer with you and take part in the lan. Mayhem takes place every month and more information can be found on their website. Besides being able to watch the best overclockers in the country get together and push the supplied hardware to its limits we would also like to use this opportunity to have a massive SystemShock get together. If you've never seen dry ice cooling before then there's no better time. The venue has braai facilities and a couple of us are going to start up a fire. If you're interested in meeting the gang then come on down and have some fun. Please bring your own meat and drinks if you want to join us at the braai. You can find more information regarding the main event in our main event thread on the forums. If you plan on joining us at the event please let us know on the forums. Thank You to our Sponsors! What's New? The SystemShock Homepage has undergone another face lift. We are putting in a concerted effort to keep the homepage updated with the lastest technology news. We also invite you to take part in the discussions on the forums. Future plans involve expanding our review sections as well as introducing a modding and overclocking section. The modding and overclocking section will contain guides as well as our competition league pages. Competitions We are thrilled to finally announce the launch of the Gigabyte & SystemShock National Overclocking Competition. You could stand the chance to win a trip to Taipei and represent South Africa in an international overclocking competition. Visit the forums for more information on the competition. Even if you don't qualify for the main event we invite all members in the Johannesburg area to join us at the main event for a SystemShock get together. Overclocking League Since it's launch in July 2007 the league has grown from strength to strength. We are now running two leagues with sponsored prizes. Visit the forums for more information on OCL 3600 and OCL 4K Stars. The rankings are still listed in NAG Magazine. Go out and buy the magazine and if you've got one of the top scores then see your name immortalised in print. In Closing That's it for this newsletter. Introduction Hello {member_name}, It's been a year since we sent out our last newsletter. It's hard to believe the year has gone by so quickly. A lot has happened on SystemShock over the last year and below is a snippet of what has happened and what we have planned for new year. Competitions We launched two very exciting competitions this week. The first competition is our Christmas Competition. A massive thank you to Gigabyte for providing us with $1000 worth of prizes to give away. For more information about the competition please visit our Gigabyte & SystemShock Christmas Competition thread on our forums. The second competition has been running for a while now but we injected some new life in to it today. We are offering 1 PC Game a month to the lucky winner of our Games Review competition. Poker Mania Poker is big news in South Africa at the moment, as it is around the world. Poker has seen a massive revival over the last couple of years with increased television coverage and the explosion of the World Series of Poker. We had a look around and couldn't find a South African poker community. Because of this we decided to launch Poker Nuts. We already have a couple of old hands posting on the site and we would love for you to join us. Ask the resident "experts" your questions and let's bring new life to the local poker playing community! In time we hope to grow Poker Nuts in to South Africa's premier poker community for both pros and new comers. If you're a fan of poker then head over to Poker Nuts and join in the fun. Let's build a community we can be proud of. Have you got the nuts? Milestones SystemShock continues to grow from strength to strength. We've passed 3000 members and now have over 165 000 posts across the forum. We continue to be the number 1 source of overclocking, modding and techincal related discussions in the country. November saw us shatter our members online record on almost a daily basis, even though this time of year generally results in less traffic on local forums as well as forums around the world. We generated an impressive 615 000 page impressions last month. This statistic excludes web spiders and ad impressions. This month also saw us land our first big corporate as a sponsor. Gigabyte have come onboard and are offering some awesome prizes for our Christmas Competition. We also have some more things planned with Gigabyte for the new year so stay tuned. Overclocking League Back in July we launched the OCL 3600. The league was designed to pit South Africa's top overclockers against each other in 8 classes. Last month saw our first feature run in NAG Magazine with the top performers in each class having their names printed. If you would also like to be famous, and have the posibility of your name being printed in NAG Magazine, then you better get benching! We have some awesome corporate sponsorship lined up for next year and we are in the final stages of negotiations. We would love to reveal more but unfortunately we can't. All we can say is stay tuned for some exciting stuff in the new year! It's never to late to get involved and get your name on to South Africa's Official Leaderboard. The current leaderboard looks like this: Gouhan - 47 points UncleBob - 42 points Trax - 41 points rra - 40 points VoodooProphetII - 39 points What's happening on the forums? DAE_JA_VOO is at it again. He's not only showing us what's inside an Xbox 360 but also how to fix it. We're looking forward to seeing what he can do to mod the 360. HowlinMadMurdoc has started up a discussion related to people's Favourite Games for 2007. Head over to the forums and join in the discussion. Ever wanted your own free e-mail domain and e-mail hosting? Psywulf has put together an extensive guide on how to go about obtaining it.
