Hi guys,

Just read an interesting article in the PTA News about the massive growth in girl gamers.

http://www.pretorian...ticleId=4650574

“According to IbisWorld, 38% of US gamers are female, up from 33% in just five years.
From January through to August of this year females aged 18 to 45 made up 28% of the total industry revenue, ranking second to males ages 18 to 45, who made up 37%.”

That’s all well and good, what with Horseland and The Sims etc, but what about real gaming?

Personally, I kick my boyfriends azz at most games. We sometimes play strip-gaming and the poor dude always ends up nekkid!

I think girls are better gamers than guys!!!

:P

w00t! I was expecting at least a bit more of an argument, but since the guys have literally lain down like puppies, can we say that you've conceded defeat? :P :P

Girls are better gamers than guys? ;)

^5! back at c0d3r! ;)

on topic though, even though I am a major geek the thought of a girl geek/gamer as a GF does not attract me, dont know if its just me.

can you show us evidence for this sexist claim?

since when is one gender better at games than another? on what basis do you make this statement

I would go as far to say that owning a Wii does not make you a "leet hardcore gamer". so yay someone owns a console or wii, the question is how often do they use it and how often have they bought games for it?

males are still the dominant gender in gaming, take a look at lans, gaming competitions or just your local GAME (UK video games store) to see what type of people are in there purchasing games.

I didn't say which games tho... ;)

There are more guys that play games and guys usually play for longer, but I whip a few asses when playing and I don't spend hours and hours each day practicing skills.

I think if you had a guy vs girl competition and both spent equal amounts of time learning the game and all the strategies, the guys will have some stiff competition.

@ girl geek / gamer for a girlfriend - what you rather have: a girl that can't freaken stop talking about her nails / hair and "those absolutely gorgeous pair of pink polka dot kitten hills that are on sale and I must have them" and the latest "did you hear / see that Bob and Sally..." or a girl that can actually maintain a decent conversation about things you like too? I'm not saying date a butch female that knows more about cars, audio and computers than you... but you must certainly like something with more than just a pretty face?

:)

And I'm prolly a bit bias when judging who is the better gamer.

But this is changing, that's what I'm saying. Whereas gaming used to be the sole reserve of guys... this is changing, and changing fast and soon it will reach critical mass. Then, my friend, you will see more and more leet gamers.

Don't ya think?

yes, because they have been practising and 'training', not just because they are a women so by default that have +20 to gaming skills.

that is a massive generalisation. you make the assumption that girls that play games are superior, more intelligent and dont talk about nails/hair/handbags etc. you then assume that non girl gamers are less intelligent and only talk about major girly/fluffy stuff and that they are just attractive bimbos.

I like someone with a pretty face who is also intelligent and mentally stimulates/interests me and isnt a geek or girl gamer, far easier to find than a girl gamer.

yes prob more biased than me, you also make some silly assumptions

Girls better than boys at maths
Girls are outperforming boys at A-levels
Girls better at language than boys
Differences between boys and girls growing up
Gaming isn’t for boys anymore

I wish my girl would play games..... She don't mind me playing games every now and then, but I feel bad if I play games and she's by herself.

Nah... I don't think I ever played @ Tech.

HMM: Ladies don't automatically get +20 to gaming skills whenever they double click on the icon. But then also, guys also don't get +20 to gaming skills just because they are stereotypically dressed as a geek. I'm not saying that a girl that knows how to switch a pc on or play a online game is more intelligent or superior to girls that don't do that. I'm just saying that you do afterall get the all-out bimbo that gives you the deer-in-the-headlights stare when you ask her something and then you get bad ass techie girls that know more that the bad ass techie guy.

HMM: Have you dated a girl geek / gamer that you can say for certain you'll never ever in your life want to date one?
