Hi all,

I'm currently runnign Vista Business 64-bit on my laptop, but I so desperately want to format and put a Linux Distro on.

I was told Ubunthu is good for noobs? Only thing is, no-one has a friggin copy for me!!

Is there any way someone can help me with a Linux Distro?

My laptop is Intel Core 2 Duo, 64-bit. Lenovo G550 ( The model with the built in numpad on the side ).

I'm in Cape Town, Plattekloof to be exact. I have no problem fetching it by someone who can maybe help me?

Hopefully there's someone out there who can help. Downloading the distro is not an option for me, damn cap prices 0wn me.

Thx guys.

Hey, i'm not close by but you can maybe ask Stinky he's in gansbaai, if you have a friend with adsl(im assuming you've got some sort of wireless, with the damn high cap prices) you can download alot of distros locally Mirror.is.co.za
There is also a freedom toaster in capetown where you can get linux distros free Freedom Toaster

Hope that helps :)

Awesome, thank you!!

So if I understand this correctly, I can goto any "Freedom Toaster", walk in & say, "Hi, could I pls have a Linux distro for free" and they'll give me one?

Is that how it works? Coz I'm close to Canal Walk, and I see there's one of these "toaster" places by the MTN place.

You could also order a free copy from the ubuntu website and have it delivered to you by post :)

You take along a blank CD, pop it into the Toaster, select your distro and it writes a copy to your disc. Beware that the Ubuntu LiveCD will require a Net connection for installation

I am in Cape Town

I could drop you a copy if you like.

I have x86 version of Kubuntu Karmic koala, (9.10)
And then I also have the 64bit version of Jaunty Jackolope (9.04) also Kubuntu.

Ill even be nice and teach you the basics. (Only if you need my noobish advise  )

Let me know and I can get you a copy in this week.

For ultimate convenience try FOSS CD's ... it's not free though!
