Regarding: Exceptional service from Danie du Preez
To whom it may concern:
Firstly, let me start with a brief history on our problem. A couple of months ago, there was a major pipe burst in the Rooihuiskraal / Amberfield area which left us without water for a good couple of days. Needless to say this caused a great deal of interruption and running around to shower and get water for coffee and so on. After the pipe line was fixed, we saw a noticeable drop in water pressure, especially over peak periods.
This loss of water pressure was acceptable until about 2 weeks ago. Then it got really bad. Between 16H00 and 22H00, there was almost no pressure to talk about. Filling my daughter’s bath with approximately 10 cm of water took more than half an hour. Using a sprinkler meant opening the water to full blast and then shaking the sprinkler above your head to tease the grass with some water. Although this ended up solving the shower problem, it wasn’t very useful to my grass. My neighbor, who has a small baby (only a couple of months old), started taking the child to friends in other parts of Centurion just to bath her and collect water for her bottles.
I had my brother, who is a qualified plumber, come out and test our water pressure and he was shocked at the pressure readings. I spoke to our care taker, who informed me that this was apparently a known problem and “someone” was looking at it. I then decided to phone the municipality and try to find out what is going on. After going from department to department and being given number after number I ended up with Danie du Preez’s number. And, from here on in, things started happening:
After phoning Danie and explaining our situation to him, he advised that he would get someone to take a look at it. Now, I’ve heard this before, and wasn’t expecting a lot. Arriving home that evening I was shocked to find a municipality truck outside our complex, and even more shocking, was seeing people actually working on the water pipes. During the period from about 17H00 until 21H30 there was still no noticeable increase in pressure, and at one point we had no water. This is very close to the water pressure we had, but a drop from 15 dpm (drops per minute) to 0 was worrying. Danie did phone me to explain what was going on. The following day he again phoned me to explain what was happening and what his plan was. That evening at about 19H00 he phoned me to check the pressure but unfortunately due to other arrangements I could only check it later as I was no where close to home. Upon arriving home, the first test I did was to open up my pop-up sprinklers, which during our “dry” period, was about as useful as walking around with a syringe and spraying water on the grass.
So, not expecting too much, I opened the sprinklers to full blast, as I needed to do before, and almost shot some of my wall bricks into the garage across from my unit. Areas on my lawn that were previously marked as desert zones, turned into oasis of water, with grass almost jumping up and down. Images of angels from heaven singing Hallelujah with harps in the background and little kids playing in the sprinklers, in slow motion, came to mind. On to the next test then, and off I went to the shower in “peak” time, a task that previously entailed very good hand/body reaction time. Let me explain: the only way I could shower was to turn the warm water tap to full and wait for the boiling hot blast of warm water, then close the warm water, open the cold water let the cold water mix with the warm water left in the pipe and quickly wet your body and hair. Repeat above steps for the next half an hour until most of your showering has been done.
OK, so let’s open the shower then. Mmmm …. Should there be pieces of tile flying everywhere ? Who cares ? I’d rather be blinded by flying tiles than not being able to shower and this was amazing. This is by far the most constant pressure we’ve had in the last 4 months and one person is responsible for this: enter Danie du Preez.
If there were more people like him, that showed the kind of commitment to customer satisfaction that he has shown, nobody in SA would be complaining about poor service delivery. He went way above his work commitments, and helped us to an extent that nobody else has even tried to come close to. As I have already said to Danie, Thank you for the amazing effort and even more amazing results and I hope that he receives a house in Plettenberg Bay or Porsche or at least, some sort of reward and recognition for his exceptional service.
Please could you make sure that this letter find the correct people and that people are made aware of the standard of service that is achievable by someone who obviously enjoys his work, but above all, has an honest drive to make sure that customer satisfaction is priority number 1.
